About The Duchess

“Jodie Whittaker rules the West End” (Tatler) as she takes on the role of a lifetime in Zinnie Harris’ provocative “Tarantinoesque revenge tragedy” (Guardian), now playing at the Trafalgar Theatre.

Whittaker stars as The Duchess, a daring and powerful widow who defies her family’s wishes by remarrying beneath her class. However, when her brothers, driven by insurmountable greed and rage, discover her second marriage they unleash a series of cruel and devastating punishments against her. But will their harrowing atrocities come back to haunt them?

Written and directed by award-winning Zinnie Harris (Macbeth (an undoing)), this “pacy and intense” (Telegraph) adaptation of John Webster’s drama, The Duchess of Malfi is “acutely right for our times” (The Times) as it explores the depths of the patriarchy against female resistance.

Whitakker leads an all-star cast in this vivid production “packed with passion and grandeur” (Evening Standard) and is joined by Joel Fry, Rory Fleck Byrne, Jude Owusu, Paul Ready, Elizabeth Ayodele, Hubert Burton, Matti Houghton, Hannah Visocchi, Kerill Kelly, Greg Snowden, and Amy Vicary-Smith.

Please note: Tue 29 Oct, 7.30pm - this performance will be filmed.
